Loyalty Project for Victims from University Students: “ They Died to Keep Us Alive”
Students of Istanbul Gelisim University, Public Relations and Social Responsibility Club organized “They Died to Keep Us Alive” project to show dedication to victims and their families.
Students visited Canakkale Memorial and placed wreaths on graves. As a secong stage of the project Faculty member of Istanbul Gelisim University Alihan Limoncuoğlu conducted commemorative ceremony and gave a speech. At the last stage students had a conversation about the needs and necessities with the relatives of victims in Edirnekapi Victims’ Families Fraternal Social Cultural Association.
Moreover, the results of survey conducted among 100 students were presented. The survey was conducted by Çiğdem Özgül, Emel Sivri, Sultan Sena Önder, Yüksel Er, Sefkan Gürgen, Elif Kıcı, Beyza Nur Taşkın, Çağatay Kaan Gürcan, Asya İslim Othan, Gülşen Ece Tekgül, İlker Musa Demir with the help of Istanbul Gelisim University, Head of the School of Applied Sciences, Public Relations and Advertising Department Emel Tozlu Öztay, Head of Vocational School of Higher Education, Departmnent of Marketing and Advertising Fulya Beteş and Faculty member Atilla Akalın.
According to the results of the survey, 34% of participants think that victims are not properly honored, 28% mentioned that they hadn’t joined any activity related to victims before, 38% don’t have any idea how to help the relatives of victims, 33% are dubious about maintainance, 35% are dubious about the sufficiency of help provided to victims’ relatives by government.
CERTIFICATES OF APPRECIATION GIVEN TO STUDENTS
Mehmet Güner, Head of Victims’ Families Fraternal Social Cultural Association distributed the certificates of appreciation to the members of association. “We are grateful to the students of Istanbul Gelisim University for their sensitivity. Our doors are opened to you all the time. Here is your home, we share our pain here and spend time together. You are also a part of our family” he said.
“The fact that the projects which motivate our students to be not only professionals in working life but also loyal citizens with integrity are held in our institution makes us quite happy. This project gave us a chance to express our gratitude to all victims and veterans. All the victims rest in peace” added Director of Istanbul Gelisim University Vocational School of Higher Education Prof. Nezir Köse.
