“Childhood Not Wedding Gown Suits Them” project growing
Students of Istanbul Gelisim University, School of Applied Sciences, Public Relations and Advertising Department Gizem Civan, Feyza İşçi, Hatice Ayşen Çiftçi, Hatice Kübra Çakır and Eren Özdemir organized a conference as a part of Childhood Not Wedding Gown Suits Them Project. The main topic of the conference was awareness of child brides issue.
The students of Public Relations and Advertising Department drew people’s attention to the issue of child brides as a social problem and emphasized the importance of being sensitive to it. A lot of people from different professional sectors joined the conference as the second stage of the whole project , e.g.
Hacer Erence (psychologist), Mine Dağ (lawer), Nurcan Tulga ( Fashion house manager), Ceyhun Düz (hairdresser). The speakers talked about the importance of finding a solution to this problem as well as reacting to this sensitive issue properly .Later they shared experience related to child brides in their sectors.
As a part of social campaign posters such as ‘In this branch bridal hair styles are not done to brides younger 18’ or ‘ Here we don’t sell wedding gowns to people under 18’ were placed to wedding gown shops and hair styling saloons. The lawer Mine Dağ praised the campaign :” The fact that university students organized such an event makes me feel proud. I wish all the universities would work on these projects”. “We want young women to get education, to stand on their own feet and be active in their working life. This is possible with the help of mothers. The better living conditions of women are, the more useful individuals they will bring up in society. We hear that many wedding gown shops and hairdresser saloons are eager for participation in the project and we believe that it will be very effective. We thank everybodu who contributed to the project of our university, particularly Chairman of the board of trustees Abdülkadir Gayretli” Head of IGU Public Relations and Advertising Department Asst. Prof. Emel Tozlu said duringpresentation of gratitude plaques to the speakers..
