Childhood Not Wedding Gown Suits Them” Project in the media
IGU Public Relations and Advertising Department students prepared a social project for child brides “Childhood Not Wedding Gown Suits Them”. As a part of this project they put posters such as ‘In this branch bridal hair styles are not done to brides younger 18’ or ‘ Here we don’t sell wedding gowns to people under 18’ to wedding gown shops and hair styling saloons.
The students participating in the project drew people’s attention to the issue of child brides as a social problem and emphasized the importance of being sensitive to it. The student of Public Relations and Advertising Department Kübra Çakır claimed that they wanted to attract people’s attention from different sectors and get the support. “We wanted to show actions rather than just warning people by using words. We talk to the owners of wedding gown shops and hairdresser saloons and suggest them not to sell wedding dresses or not to do bridal hair styles to the girls under 18. We demand suuport from them cause women shoul be able to get education, work and be apart of society” she added.
“Our main aim is to attract people’s attention and raise awareness of child brides problem in society by means of this campaign. We want young women in Turkey to get education, make their career and actively participate in working life. . This is possible with the help of mothers. The better living conditions of women are, the more useful individuals they will bring up in society. So, this campaign was organized to contribute to this process” said the supervisor of Istanbul Gelisim University Public Relations and Social Respobsibility Club.
“We hope that this project will spread around the country. We expect all interested institutions to contact us via social media accounts. When interested people contact us we will send them posters for free and our campaign will be announced to a wider mass of people” assumed university media coordinator Saygı Ünlü.
“We need some people behind us in this project because this issue starts from hairdressers and wedding gown shops. If they come against and say no to the child brides we will be able to raise awareness” added the student of our university Gizem Çelikbaş.
Kübra Çakır, Gizem Çelikbaş, Hatice Ayşen Çiftçi, Feyza İşçi and Eren Özdemir, Istanbul Gelisim University students who prepared “Childhood Not Wedding Gown Suits Them” project, announced that hairdressers and wedding gown shop owners could reach them via social media accounts.
After being discussed on the national news channels and in the printed media, projects became the reason for numerous posters demands from hairdressers and weddong dress shop owners on social media accounts.
